Minister of Education Agnes NyaLonje has disclosed government’s plans of establishing an Education Radio Station.
NyaLonje, who reported the development in Parliament on Thursday, said the main purpose of the radio station is to reach out to a wider audience of students on education matters.
“It’s like part of digitalising education in the country, I am sure you are familiar with school programmes that come over the radio, that will be the main role.
“This will be a dedicated radio similar to what used to happen way back, the country used national education programme, that over the years has suffered,” NyaLonje said.
She added that the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) already issued a broadcasting license to the Ministry.
“Macra issued us broadcasting license way back, what remains on our part is to roll out the radio station.”
Currently, the Ministry offers specific class sessions through state-run Malawi Broadcasting Station (MBC) Radio 1.
