Some of the flood survivors in Chikwawa say they are ready to move uplands to prevent impacts of future natural disasters.
Speaking to YFM online, Group Village Head (GVH) Pakamwa said they have been heavily affected and they are willing to take the land which authorities have given them so that can settle there.
“Some land was allocated to us before so what remains now is that I together with other chiefs should go and inspect the land,” GVH Pakamwa said.
GVH Pakamwa also stated that he will continue encouraging his subjects to plant more trees and build resilient structures.
Another flood survivor from Thendo village Regina Raphael said this is the first time her village has experienced a flood situation.
Raphael said, she would love to start afresh because she has lost her hard earned property.
“Life here at Thendo camp is hopeless and if we were to be given some land that would be appreciated so that our live can return to normalcy,” Raphael said.
