The Malawi Liverpool Wellcome (MLW) Trust has donated food and non-food relief items worth K25 million to flood survivors in ten camps of Chikwawa district.
Speaking on the sidelines of the donation at Tiwasamale camp, MLW Associate Director, Janelisa Musaya said they decided to make the donation because it is the main site where they conduct health research.
Musaya stated that currently some of their research has been put on hold but it is more important for the people to get their lives back and then proceed with their work.
“We’ve been working in Chikwawa for over 25 years and we share their pain we cannot come here and work when we know people are displaced,” Musaya said.
Chikwawa District Hospital Health Promotion Officer Setti Piriminta described the donation as timely, saying it will ease some of the health problems that have overwhelmed the health system.
Commenting on the donation, chairman for Tiwamasale camp, Anderson Justin thanked MLW for their gesture saying people needed food, clothes and other essential items.
Among the items donated are, bags of flour, Likuni phala for children,Waterguard, buckets and clothes.
