The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services says people should not panic with the cyclone Emnati that developed in the Indian Ocean as the cyclone is no longer a threat to Malawi.
Principal meteorologist and head of public weather service, Yobu Kachiwanda, told YONECO FM Online that this is because the cyclone is heading southwards of Madagascar and away from Malawi.
“Cyclone Emnati currently is moving away from Malawi which is good news to the country because this means the cyclone provides no threat of stormy winds, flash floods and many others to the country,” Kachiwanda said.
The department has further warned the public to be alert saying there is a possibility of intense rainfall in the coming two days.
“We have a rain belt in enter tropical convergence zone active in central North and lakeshore areas and southern areas will be dry in the coming two years,” Kachiwanda said.
