As one way of embracing corporate social responsibility, Destiny ICT school students on Tuesday donated assorted items to Likuni Mission Hospital in Lilongwe.
The items include sugar, soap and body lotion.
The school’s director, Julius Jere said in an interview that the gesture was part of the school’s corporate social responsibility.
“This is a way of giving back to the community. As a school we get students from the community so, as a way of giving back to the community we thought of coming here to cheer the patients and make a donation,” Jere said.
“We people live because of love so, this is one way of showing love to others. As a school, we are also trying to inculcate love in our students so that they grow into reliable citizens.”
Veracious Friday, an ICT student at the school, encouraged fellow youth to discover the power of cheering those in need of material and moral support.
“The aim of coming here was to help mothers that have just given birth or those that are pregnant because we know that some of those may not afford to have some basic necessities, and also for them to walk out of the ward to look for a soap would be difficult,” Veracious said.
In his remarks, Principal Nursing Officer at Lilkuni Hospital Jacob Chiumia commended the students for the gesture.
“As you already know that these months of January and February usually people have economic challenges so, when one is admitted at a hospital, for them to sustain themselves with all necessities it is very difficult,” Chiumia said.
Destiny ICT School which opened its doors on the foundation of charity in 2012 offers lessons in Information Communication Technology (ICT) and tailoring to young people at a lower cost as part of empowering the youth with skills.
