President Lazarus Chakwera has sacked the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority(Mera) board on grounds of incompetence.
In a letter signed by Secretary to the president and cabinet Zangazanga Chikhosi, this follows the poor handling of recruitment of Mera Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Henry Kachaje.
According to the letter, the removal of the board is subject to inquiry and approval by the Public Affairs Committee.
In November 2021 Ombudsman Grace Malera was stopped from presenting details of a report on a probe into the recruitment of Mera CEO Henry Kachaje the report was titled “Curbing Impunity”.
