Police in Mulanje district have arrested four men suspected to have taken part in the murder of a 35-year-old man, Chimwemwe Mafukeni, early this month.
The four are Manyowa Steven Khwale (58), Chikondi Lingstone (24) both from Kumwamba village in the area of Senior Chief Mabuka.
Malizani Makocha (32) of Namakhutcha Village and Peter Hamisi Walasi (37) of Kachingwe Village both from Senior Chief Chikumbu.
According to Mulanje police station publicist, Sub Inspector Gresham Ngwira, on the night of February 9 2022, a mob attacked the deceased on allegation that he had stolen cellphones at Chisitu Trading Centre in the district.
Following the report, the law enforcers have been carrying out investigations that led to the arrest of the four suspects and they will face murder charges that contravene section 209 of the Penal Code.
The arrest comes few days after Police also arrested two other suspects who allegedly took part in the murder of another man at Njedza Village in the district on February 3, 2022.
Police have therefore strongly condemn the acts of mob justice saying perpetrators will face the long arm of the law.
