Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) has described inadequate resources as one of the setbacks the institution is facing in the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV).
YONECO Executive Director, MacBain Mkandawire, said this on the side-lines of a visit by the delegation from Trocaire, an international organization funding some anti-GBV and climate change interventions in Malawi.
Mkandawire told YFM that through GBV crisis line, YONECO surpassed its target of reaching out to 6000 people and managed to support 8000 people an indication that the services are highly demanded.
Mkandawire has since called on government and other stakeholders to fund the institution to enable it expand its service delivery.
Mkandawire said: “An increase in the funding can help to have more counsellors so that we are able to reach out to many clients.
“In addition, we also need resources that will enhance building capacity of referral systems in the country so that the areas are able to respond to the issues in their communities.
Meanwhile Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Trocaire, Finola Finnan, has commended YONECO for a recommendable work in dealing with GBV and climate change.
