The Tobacco Commission (TC) has officially set March 31 as the opening date for the 2022 tobacco marketing season.
A press statement from the Commission said the season will kick off with the Lilongwe floors on the said date followed by Limbe floors on April 5.
Dates for the opening of Chinkhoma and Mzuzu floors will be announced mid-month of April.
TC says this year’s early start to the marketing season is for the economic benefit of growers.
The statement reads in part: “In February, TC said this year’s sales would start earlier than in previous years for the economic benefit of growers.”
The commission has indicated that tobacco deliveries at the Lilongwe and Limbe floors are expected to commence on 21 March this year.
