Indigenous Malawian businesspersons have called on government to provide them with machinery in order to promote value addition.
Indigenous Businesspersons Association of Malawi (IBAM) president Mike Mlombwa was commenting on the Buy Malawi Week which run from March 15 to 18.
Mlombwa described the week as very important in showcasing the various locally produced products.
He also said he was impressed with Malawian businesspersons who are able to supply their products to various supermarkets in the country.
But Mlombwa lamented that there are still bottlenecks in production for most people and this is mostly because they lack necessary machinery to upscale production.
He therefore asked government to consider assisting businesspersons with means to acquire machinery that support value addition to promote locally made goods.
“We have to urge the government now that there are plenty of Malawians who have bankable projects who lack necessary machines government needs to target such people and equip them with the necessary machinery,” he said.
