Nsanje District Health Office confirmed four new positive cholera cases on Tuesday, bringing the tally to 26 and two deaths.
Nsanje District Health Services Officer Gilbert Chapweteka said most of the cases are imported from nearbouring Mozambique where there is an outbreak.
“Two people died whilst receiving treatment,” Chapweteka said.
He said health officials are working tirelessly to control the situation by among other things, providing chlorine to households to prevent further spread of the outbreak.
“We have also strengthened preventive measures in the camps where we are keeping cyclone Gombe survivors,” Chapweteka said.
“Although we have not registered any case in the camps but we are just afraid that if the outbreak spreads to these camps it will be a disastrous situation.”
