The Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (DoDMA) has hailed the Department of Climate Change and Metrological Services for consistently providing the public with early warnings during disasters such as floods.
DoDMA spokesperson Chipililo Khamula said early warnings are key in minimizing the effects of disasters in the country.
Khamula said the early warnings have also enabled communities to have access to climate change information for their decision making on climate change issues.
He added that due to the warnings, communities in flood prone areas have responded positively by relocating to uplands.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change in connection with the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Meteorological Day under the theme; “Early Warnings and Early Action”.
