State House Director of Communications Sean Kampondeni has disclosed that the State House Briefs will now be conducted on quarterly basis.
He made the remarks during a press briefing held at Kamuzu Palace on Tuesday.
Kampondeni said the change has been considered in order to give chance to cabinet ministers who are also conducting similar briefings on weekly basis at the Central Office Information (COI).
He said: “In fact, the Department of Communications at State House, it also reports to the Ministry of Information because what we do here within the Department of Communications is a function of the Ministry of Information on a larger scale.
“So engaging with the Ministry of Information will gave us policy direction to the fact that the Minister of information would fill up a Central Office of Information.”
He added that the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation works in collaboration with the State House’s Department of Information hence some government matters will be handled by the Ministry in the course of informing Malawians.
Also speaking during the event, President Lazarus Chakwera’s spokesperson, Anthony Kasunda echoed the sentiments of Kampondeni on the change.
He said: “Now we have decided to do quarterly briefs because cabinet ministers are also on weekly basis through ‘Government faces the press’ addressing the media on what is happening in their ministries.”
