Ministry of health says it is alert on the new variants of Covid-19 which have been detected in Botswana, known as Omicron BA.4 and BA.5.

Speaking to Yoneco FM online, spokesperson in the ministry Adrian Chikumbe said, MOH is ready to test for this variant should it come to Malawi.

“The key issue remains that people should get vaccinated against Covid-19 and get boosters for maximum protection”

The covid-19 daily update for 11 April 2022 indicated that a total of 908,688 people had fully vaccinated

According to a statement released by the government of Botswana on 11 April, so far four cases of the variant have been detected but, no conclusion has been made yet in relation to whether or not the variant is more deadly and more transmissible.
