Days after the announcement of this year’s farm-gate prices, Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) is yet to announce the date for the opening of its markets for buying crops.
According to the government set farm-gate prices announced by Minister of Agriculture, Lobin Lowe, maize should be sold at a minimum of K220 per kilogramme (kg), soya beans at K480 per kg and K700 per kg for polished rice while unpolished rice is pegged at K300 per kg.
The farm-gate price for shelled groundnuts is at a minimum of K740 per kg while unshelled groundnuts have been pegged at K450 per kg.
At the meantime, farmers in some parts of the country mainly in the southern region have started harvesting their crops.
But Admarc spokesperson, Agnes Ndovie told YFM online Monday that the state produce trader grain marketer is not certain as to whether the available funds will be enough to buy the harvests from farmers.
