The Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) has appealed to local councils across the country to adopt and embrace open contracting principles and practices.
CHRR Executive Director, Michael Kaiyatsa, made the appeal through a media statement that was issued following the release of the 2021 Local Authorities Performance Assessments (Lapa).
Kaiyatsa said adopting open contracting which is characterized by disclosure of information, accountability, value for money, fair business practices, public participation and oversight throughout the entire procurement processes can be instrumental in empowering district councils to do well in such performance assessments.
He added that this can also help to enhance better public procurement and contract management outcomes.
