The Ministry of Health has implored on parents and guardians to bring out their children to receive the Polio vaccine whose second round runs from April 25 to 28.
Speaking to Yoneco FM online ahead of the exercise, Chief Health Education Officer in the ministry Mavuto Thomas said this is a critical component in ensuring Malawi deals with the polio outbreak.
According to Thomas, “There was an overwhelming vaccine acceptance in the first round where at least 2.97 million children under the age of five got vaccinated and if the same momentum is kept things it will do a lot of good”.
“Our implementation mechanism remains the same there will be door to door vaccination and health centers will be open as well so that we leave no one behind,” he said.
Polio is a highly infectious viral disease that largely affects children under the age of five (WHO).
