ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) says Malawi has made significant strides in creating ideas and innovating new tools that can solve problems.
Speaking to YFM as the country joins the global community to commemorate the international day of creativity and innovation on 21 April ICTAM President Bram Fudzulani said, in comparison to a decade ago Malawi is in a better place now.
He stated that, the innovations that young people are coming up with have also attracted international recognition but there’s need to look into policy issues at government level.
“We still have to improve as far as policy supporting the innovation space is concerned we just need the government to come in with interventions through policies to support the local innovators,” Fudzulani said.
Government on the other hand through the ministry of education, science and technology says it recognizes the importance of technology and innovation in development.
Spokesperson in the ministry Chikondi Chimala said they recently set up a new directorate of science, innovation and technology to see how Malawi can utilize the opportunities available in science and innovation.
He said key among other things is the issue of connectivity in schools.
“Learners need to be exposed to technology, that way they can be able to gain knowledge on the opportunities that are in science and innovation,” Chimala said.
