The High Court of Malawi has set April 28, 2022 as a date when it will deliver a ruling in a case in which 11 people are accused of killing MacDonald Masambuka, a young man with albinism from Machinga.
In a notice to all parties in the case in our possession, presiding Judge Dorothy NyaKaunda Kamanga said the ruling will be delivered in Blantyre.
The delivery of the judgment comes two years after the final submissions were made and various interested parties started questioning professionalism of the presiding judge.
Among the suspects are suspended Catholic Priest, Father Thomas Muhosha, a police officer, Chikondi Chileka, the deceased’s biological brother, Kassim Masambuka and suspended Machinga District Hospital Clinical Officer, Lumbani Kamanga.
Senior Chief Mkowola of Machinga, where late Masambuka was coming from, said he is now happy that finally, the case is being concluded.
He said it was so overwhelmed with calls from his subjects who have been storming his house on weekly basis asking for the progress of the case.
In his remarks, President of the Association of Persons Living with Albinism in Malawi – APAM- Young Mahamba said the association lost patience on the case and that they are still looking forwards to hear how professional will the court deliver the judgment on the matter.
He said it is so pathetic that cases involving people with albinisms are given little interest and attention in our court of laws and that this takes back the fight against the vice.
“I can’t say am happy by simply seeing the date of judgment delivery. That’s not enough but the judgment itself, will give me a level of reaction,” he said.
