Political scientist has tipped President Lazarus Chakwera to institute review of statutes governing office of the Attorney General (AG), Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The advice follows Chakwera’s remarks amid disagreements on the operations of the three governance institutions.
According to Chakwera, the relationship between the three offices should be cordial towards following rule of law without external interference.
But commenting on Chakwera’s remarks, the expert; George Phiri said reviewing laws governing the offices is the only way forward to ensuring their independence.
“The confusion has come because of the laws that govern these offices. That’s why we have the issues that surfacing now.
“I thought, the President would have directed the officers that are responsible for reviewing the laws governing these offices.
Then after that review would see these offices operating independently while the president’s view is on coordination, I think coordination can be done well if he the offices operate legally according to the statutes that established them,” said Phiri.
