An assessment by Mzuzu city council has revealed that 185 houses have been destroyed and six families completely displaced due to the heavy rains.
The rains started on Monday this week.
According to Mzuzu City Disaster Desk Officer Precious Mandala, the heavy downpour has caused floods in some areas.
The floods have also made some to be impassable.
However, Mandala confirmed that there has been no loss of life.
“As council we started the assessment immediately after receiving reports of the dames caused by the floods and so far we have managed to over 185 households but so far no loss of life has been registered,” said Mandala.
He further said Masasa, Mchenga Utuba, Chiputula, Chibavi and Zolozolo are the areas which have been assessed so far.
However, he said the council has not erected any shelter for the displaced families and those heavily affected are being accommodated by their family friends.
