The Malawi Police Service (MPS), has dispelled rumours circulating on social media that it is providing special guard services to Frighton Mphopo and Anderson Mwakyelu.
Mphopo came to lime light following an application he made before Mzuzu senior resident magistrate court to move the police to investigate the Director of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Martha Chizuma over a leaked audio which Chizuma was heard having conversation with another person in regards to corruption investigation that surrounds Zunneth Sattar and other prominent business associates.
While Mwakyeru is alleged to be the one who recorded the audio and leaked it.
According to a press statement signed by MPS deputy spokesperson, Inspector Harry Namwaza, says the rumour is aimed at tarnishing the image of the police.”
Reads part of the statement: “This is totally untrue and unfounded. It is just a mere propaganda aimed at tarnishing the image of the police.”
Meanwhile, the High Court in Lilongwe has stopped investigations which the police was conducting on Chizuma.
The court has also ordered for a review of a ruling by Mzuzu senior resident magistrate on the matter.
