The Minister of Transport Jacob Hara has dissolved the Roads Authority board of directors with immediate effect on grounds of incompetence.
In a statement, the minister said the move follows a one-person board of inquiry which the minister commissioned to look into how the board was discharging its duties.
“I appointed a one-person Board of Inquiry, Counsel Raphael Joseph Mhone, to inquire into whether the Board failed to observe or perform any of the duties or obligations conferred upon them by the Act or any written law,” reads the statement in part.
According to the statement, the inquiry found amongst others, serious corporate governance and financial failures as well as failure to supervise Roads Authority management.
“The board failed to observe and perform the duties and obligations conferred or imposed upon it under the Roads Authority Act or any written law, ” the statement reads.
