The High Court sitting at Mangochi has convicted three people of murdering a 26-year old man with albinism, Saidi Dyton.
High Court Judge Mzondi Mvula said evidence brought by the State proved that the three: James Pilo Khang’a, 71, Sumaili Nikisi; 45, and Gayesi Kapute; 44 are guilty of murdering, extracting human tissue and trafficking in persons.
Hearing of the trial has been adjourned to Wednesday May 11, 2022 where the court is expected to sentence the three.
Whilst commending the conviction, Ministry of Justice Spokesperson Pilirani Masanjala said the State will make final submissions before the convicts are sentenced.
“The court has found all of them guilty of three offenses which they committed in 2021 against the deceased.
“What remains is for the State to file submissions on the sentence and the defence would also consider mitigating factors before the court pronounces its determination,” said Masanjala.
The convicts are being represented by lawyers from the Malawi Legal Aid Bureau.
Some of Dyton’s body parts were found in the garden of one of the accused persons.
Dyton, who was from Kadewere Village in the area of Senior Chief Chowe in Mangochi District, was murdered on January 27, 2021.
