An inmate at Zomba Central Prison has been found with two cell phones in his stomach.

Malawi Prisons Service spokesperson, Chimwemwe Shaba told YFM that t he cellphones were identified through abdominal x-ray that was conducted.

According to Shaba, the inmate was among other prisoners who were working outside the prison premises and when they were coming back from their routine work, prison warders suspected him.

“Upon questioning him it is when the prisoner revealed that he inserted two cellphones into his stomach through his anus,” Shaba said.

He said after efforts to excrete the cell phones proved futile, the prisoner has been sent to Zomba Central Hospital for an operation to remove the cell phones.

Shaba said he will provide more information after interrogations of all the mentioned witnesses are done soon.
