Bingu National Stadium will host Ethiopia’s opening home match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group qualifiers against Egypt, Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced.
Confirming the development in statement FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda said this is an opportunity for Malawi to showcase the world the iconic Bingu National Stadium and for football to contribute to Malawi’s economy in time of foreign exchange crisis.
This comes following Ethiopian football federation’s request to CAF to use BNS as their national stadium is banned to host international matches due to lack of requirements.
Last week CAF gave BNS temporal approval to host international matches following an inspection that was carried out by CAF inspector Ivan Lengwe Mumba from Zambia.
