The Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe on Thursday reserved its ruling on bail application by former Tobacco Commission (TC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kayisi Sadala.
Sadala, who appeared before Magistrate Chimwemwe Chimwaza, was arrested on Tuesday this week on a charge of abuse of office.
During the hearing, the State asked the court to remand the accused for further 14 days saying police are yet to complete their investigations.
However, one of the defence lawyers Khwima Mchizi objected the application arguing that when police arrested the suspect it meant they conducted thorough investigation.
Said Mchizi: “We objected to that application on the basis that they did not give any possible reason why that should be the case.
As to why they cannot have investigations or statues person is enjoying his rights under the Constitution, so beyond that we also made an application for bail.”
Magistrate Chimwaza is scheduled to deliver her determination on the application Friday morning.
