Environmental activist Mathews Malata has called on various stakeholders to support the country in implementing environmental legal frameworks and policies in order to help conserve the country’s environment.
The call comes as Malawi joins the international community on June 5 in commemorating the 2022 World Environmental Day which is falling under the theme; “Only One Earth focusing on Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.
Malata said lack of implementation of policies in the environmental sector is fuelling to lack of waste management and uncovering of the country’s forests which are issues influencing negative impacts of climate change in the country such as cyclones.
“The commemoration of World Environmental Day presents an opportunity to every citizen to renew their relationship with nature,” Malata said.
He further urged Malawians to have an uplifting altitude towards the protection of the environment through various measures to ensure that the country’s environment prolong to sustain.
