The Presidential Taskforce on Coronavirus has reminded people in the country that all travel requirements for Malawi became effective on June 1, 2022.
According to a media statement issued on Thursday by the Taskforce’s co-chairperson Khumbize Chiponda, all incoming travellers, including Malawians that are fully vaccinated are no longer required to produce a COVID-19 PCR Certification prior to entering the country.
In the statement, Chiponda said all incoming travellers including Malawians that are not fully vaccinated or do not have an electronically verifiable COVID-19 full vaccination certificate are required to produce a negative PCR based COVID-19 certificate.
Chiponda adds that such certificate should not be order than 72 hours at the time of arrival in Malawi.
Likewise, the Taskforce has reminded all outgoing travellers that COVID-19 PCR certificate or full COVID-19 vaccination requirement depends on the destination of the country’s requirements.
In addition, the statement says all children below the age 12 years should enter into the country unconditionally whilst accompanied by their parents or guardians.
The Taskforce has since encouraged all people that are aged 12 years and above to get vaccinated saying that the country has adequate stocks of COVID-19 jabs in all vaccination sites.
“The evidence from the country’s COVID-19 data indicates that the majority that are being admitted due to severe COVID-19 and those dying from COVID-19 are not vaccinated,” Chiponda said.
Malawi has registered over 85, 000 cumulative confirmed COVID-19 cases and over 2,600 people have succumbed to the novel virus.
