Ministry of Health has stated that about 1,359,013 people in the country have been vaccinated against cholera representing 70.31%.
According to the cholera vaccine brief summary, there is still need for more people to get the vaccine since new Cholera cases are being registered daily.
The summary also points out that there is inadequate supply of chlorine, Personal Protective Equipment and rehydration solutions.
Asides these challenges, there is also resistance to change by the people and negative religious influence against the vaccines.
Despite the setbacks, 612,294 males and 752,676 females got the vaccine, 236,724 were aged between one to 14 years where as 573,641 were aged above 14 years
Presently, there is a deficit of K3,161,206 towards cholera response.
8 districts have been prioritized for the vaccine among them is Nsanje, Chikwawa and Blantyre.
Ministry of Health is working closely with WHO, UNICEF, Save the Children among other partners.
