Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has underscored the need for all persons to partake sporting activities so as to lead healthy lives.
The call has come at a time most people are struggling with non-communicable diseases, some of which can be prevented by staying fit.
Speaking to YONECO FM online, Public Relations Officer for the council Edgar Mtulumbwa said they have a “Sports for all” programme whose aim is to get people of all ages to take part in physical activities.
“We are also reminding communities to observe Covid-19 preventive measure set by the Ministry of Health as they are exercising,” he said.
Mtulumbwa also pointed out that the council has been having first aid trainings as a way of teaching people how to handle emergencies during sporting activities among others.
Statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that each year, more than 15 million people die from a NCD between the ages of 30 and 69 years; 85% of these “premature” deaths occur in low and middle income countries.
