The Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Patricia Kaliati, says the country is making tremendous strides in ending harmful cultural practices affecting children.
Kaliati made the remarks on Thursday at Nsondole in Zomba district during the national commemoration of the Day of the African Child, under the theme; “Eliminating harmful practices affecting children”.
Kaliati among others, cited interventions including student’s loans, days for girls and early education strategy saying they have enabled parents to make informed decisions such as sending their children to school.
Whilst commending Zomba district for being in the fore-front in promoting education, she called for efforts and collaboration from partners and stakeholders to entirely eliminate harmful cultural practices such as child marriages.
