Two people arrested in relation to theft of K335 million at Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) will have to spend another night in cooler as their case failed to commence on Monday.
The two – Chimwemwe Kaphagawani, 34 and Success Sikwese, 32 were arrested on Wednesday last week but failed to appear before court ever since as the court was reportedly not available.
In an interview, lawyer representing the two accused persons – William Chiwaya said there are prospects that the two would appear before the Chief Resident Magistrate’s on Tuesday morning.
“They were arrested last Wednesday, and that was on the June 29, and we are supposed to appear in court today, but the court is not available.
So we are being told that we should appear tomorrow for them to be formally charged and also take plea but there have been attempts to have them appear before the court,” said Chiwaya.
According to a charge sheet which YFM online has seen, the two have been charged with counts bordering on theft by a person employed in the public service and money laundering.
It further reads that being person employed in the public, as loans grants manager and communication manager, respectively, and having by virtue of their employment received or had in their custody or under control the sum of K300 million were unable to produce the said sum to their employer or make due account therefor.
