Members of Muhlako wa Alhomwe grouping on Wednesday petitioned president Lazarus Chakwera in order to highlight their grievances on governance.
Among other concerns, the grouping has asked government to stop harassing people from the southern region more especially those belonging to Lhomwe tribe and ensure that there is no segregation in delivering of justice to all people.
The grouping also alleged that a number of Lhomwes have been fired from their positions which they occupied on merit and also some are being denied to do businesses in the country.
The grouping has also demanded justice in the arrest of their board chairperson, Leston Muli, whom together with the Former Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Lloyd Muhara, has been charged with conspiracy to defraud government and abuse of office.
Speaking to the media, after presenting their petition to the District commissioner Bennet Mkasala, Projects and Developments Manager at Muhlako wa Alhomwe, John Phiri, said they are also wondering why authorities are silent on the audio which recently went viral on social media which labelled Lhomwe’s as murderers and bloodsuckers.
Phiri said: What worries us most is the silence from the Civil Society Organisations such as the Public Affairs Committee and government through the ministry of civic education and national unity and ministry of culture and tourism.
He further said it is obvious that there is war against Lomwes in this country saying “those who are against us are aware that we are hardworking and peaceful.
The grouping has since given government 24 hours to respond to their petition or they will start organizing vigils in government offices, conduct peaceful demonstrations every Thursdays and also push for a federal system of government.
