Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) says it is optimistic that it will commence the much delayed construction of 250 000 decent and affordable houses this year once relevant authorities give approval.
In 2020, the corporation unveiled a 10-year plan to construct modern housing flats in the cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu but the project yet to start.
MHC Board Chairperson, Justin Dzonzi said the delay was due to a lack of authorization from different sectors such as the ministry of lands, finance and natural resources.
He further added that the project will not finish in the time frame previously indicated and has been shifted to adequately accommodate construction works.
Dzonzi said the project is expected to end in 2032.
