The Malawi Health Equity Network (Mhen) has asked theĀ Ministry of Health to formulate guidelines for prevention of iron deficiency anaemia among adolescent girls in the country.
This follows survey findings done by UNICEF Malawi which shows that 35% of adolescent girls in the country are anaemic.
Mhen Executive Director George Jobe told YFM online that government should use the findings to plan, implement and allocate more resources towards raising awareness and prevention of anaemia, a condition which leads to fatigue, difficulty focusing, and reduced cognitive performance, ultimately affecting girl’s school performance.
He further asked the ministry to publicize the National Multi-Sector Nutrition Policy in order to enhance the fight against the condition.
