The family of the late Catholic priest Father Thomas Muhosha has asked government to provide an explanation on how he died in custody.
Muhosha, who was serving a 30-year jail term for the murder Macdonald Masambuka, a young man with albinism in 2018, died on Tuesday at Zomba Central Hospital.
Malawi Prison Service spokesperson Chimwemwe Shaba said Muhosha was diagnosed with depression and was refusing to eat any food which made him to become weak.
Shaba said his family was informed about the development.
Muhosha, who until his death was not in full communion with the Catholic Church, was laid to rest on Wednesday in the area of Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba.
