Leader of the National Assembly Richard Chimwendo Banda has expressed delight with how Members of Parliament (MPs) have carried out their business during first week of their meeting.
Chimwendo Banda told Yoneco FM online that despite the lawmakers not turning in large numbers, debate in the House has been productive.
“He added that government presented various financial bills and ministerial statements that saw the legislators deliberating on.
“It has been a very good week for MPs, deliberations have gone in very well from government side we had ministerial statements that were presented in the House and well debated,” said Chimwendo Banda.
At the same time we had financial Bills from Minister of Finance, at least four have been passed and we also had private members’ motion that came into the House.
Concurring with Chimwendo Banda, Leader of Opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa said leadership of both sides met to discuss abscondment of proceedings by most lawmakers.
“Not really satisfying because there are still some other gaps we have had some instances of absenteeism in the House.
But as leadership of we have discussed on how to deal with the matter that’s why I am very optimistic that come next week we are going to pick up to time where we are going to finish next week,” Nankhumwa said.
The lawmaker are meeting for the Sixth Meeting of the House in the 49th Session and they will meet for four weeks from July 18 to August 12, 2022.
