Government says it is making progress towards achieving the construction of 10,000 houses for security officers.
Speaking in Parliament on Monday, Deputy Minister of Lands Deus Gumba said the first phase of the project will see construction of 1,000 houses.
He said: “We wanted to appraise the august House as to what has been happening and the projection regarding the future.”
Gumba pleaded with lawmakers to facilitate allocation of land in their respective constituencies so that the houses should be constructed too in every constituency.
“Every constituency will benefit and it’s our appeal to all the Members of Parliament (MPs) to collaboratively work with us in allocating land for construction of such houses.
Once land is allocated, our surveyors from the Ministry will come and examine the land before commencement of the project,” Gumba said.
The project intends to construct 10,000 houses for the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), the Malawi Police Service (MPS), the Malawi Prison Service, and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services.
