Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament says the newly appointed Inspector General (IG) of Police Merlyne Nachulu Yolamu has been cleared of her alleged corruption involvement in the infamous Zunneth Sattar connected dealings.
Yolamu, who on Wednesday morning attended a two-hour recruitment and assessment processes with the committee, was heavily linked to an alleged corrupt transaction involving business tycoon Sattar.
PAC chairperson, Joyce Chitsulo said the committee’s assessment report on how Yoramu has fared will be presented in Parliament this coming Friday.
But sources within PAC membership said 17 members of the committee voted ‘yes’ with only one member rejecting the new IG.
Traditionally, the Committee has 21 members and the other three members did not attend the meeting.
Commenting on allegations that Yolamu is involved in Zunneth Sattar corruption scandal, Chitsulo said the Committee engaged the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) which cleared her on the matter.
