The defence in the K2.7 billion food rations procurement deal has bemoaned that some contents in documents being rendered by State witness former Inspector General of Malawi Police Service (MPS) Lexten Kachama are not clear.
The concerns follow continued move by the State’s witness rendering documents that have copies that are not clear.
“It will be difficult for me to talk about the relevance of these letters, because I will start now discussing the case and I am not allowed at this point in time.
The ACB wants to provide some documents that are bit clearer because some letters, the time they were preparing the documents they were not clear,” said Madalitso Kausi, lawyer representing Kachingwe.
Making her determination, High Court Judge Annabel Mtalimanja has ordered the State to submit clear documents by Friday next week.
Kachama, who is State’s third witness, is testifying in a case involving businessperson Zameer Karim alongside police officer – senior superintendent Grant Kachingwe in relation to a K2.7 food rations deal involving Karim’s company – Pioneer Investments.
The two are answering six counts of theft, conspiracy to use public office for one’s advantage, money laundering and forgery.
Hearing of the matter is expected to resume on 27 up to 29 September 2022.
