The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says all is set for the August 23 by elections to be held in three districts of the country.
MEC Chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale made the remarks when the commission received ballot papers which will be used in the election.
Kachale said all polling materials will be dispatched to the Karonga, Balaka and Chitipa therefore all electoral stakeholders should ensure they are present on 22nd May to inspect if polling materials are adequate.
He also stated that there is need to find creative ways to ensure people do not lose interest in local government elections by elect since most of these are marred by voter apathy.
“We’ve always emphasized that local government elections are very critical to development because it is in the local government council that resources and different projects are located in the various areas”.
