Senior Resident Magistrate Felix Katsalira has granted bail to Mzuzu city Mayor Gift Desire Nyirenda.

He was arrested last week for allegedly defiling an underage girl.

Making his bail ruling on Friday, Senior Magistrate Katsalira has among others ordered the accused to surrender all travelling documents to Mzuzu police station, to report to Mzuzu police station on every Mondays, not to travel out of Mzuzu without noticing the police, not communicate with the state witnesses, to pay K500,000 cash bail bond and to provide two sureties each bonded at K1 million.

Hearing on the case will continue on September 2, 2022.
