Mining governance expert Grain Malunga has expressed dissatisfaction with government’s delay to release funds for the establishment of National Mining Company.
This follows President Lazarus Chakwera’s sentiments on the importance of mining and the need to operationalize the country’s laws in the extractive industry.
Malunga told YFM Online that this is possible if those who have the mining authority in the establishment of the company speed up processes into the matter,
He argued that there are a lot of problems in the mining sector including unlicensed mining, which according to him, can be addressed by the company.
Ministry of Mining submitted a K5 billion request to Ministry of Finance for the establishment of the company a year ago.
