The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has declared Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidates Elisha Mwayikatu Winga and Ronald Kayira as winners in Lupembe and Wenya Wards in Karonga and Chitipa respectively.

The commission has also declared United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Dickson Wisili as winner in Shire Ward in Balaka.

The announcement was made at the commission’s main tally centre for the by- elections at Katoto Secondary School in Mzuzu.

The Wards fell vacant due to the deaths of sitting councilors.
