Government has described the construction of the Clinical Research Excellence and Training Open Resource (CREATOR) project by the Malawi Liverpool Trust as key in finding solutions to the problems in the country’s health sector.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the building on Thursday, deputy minister of health Enock Phale stated that the project also resonates well with Ministry of Health research agenda.
Phale added that Malawi will also save money that it spends when sending samples or tests to be analyzed by international researchers.
“MLW has helped us in reshaping treatment guidelines for diseases such as Malaria and Pneumonia among others and we are optimistic that this building will do more to Malawi’s health sector and across borders,” Phale said.
In his remarks Professor Steven Gordon, the CREATOR champion, said the CREATOR building will mold Malawian scientists who have for a long time been trained in countries like the United Kingdom.
“The gap that this will fill is to provide the facilities that will enable the brightest and best Malawian scientists to build their research groups right here because this is the best place in the world for their research and their careers,” Gordon said.
The value of the CREATOR building is 9.5 million pounds.
