The Malawi National Council of Sports has dissolved the stand-in Athletics Association of Malawi executive committee for its failure to amend the constitution and hold elections within the stipulated time.
This is according to a press statement released on Wednesday and is signed by Sports Council Board Chairperson, Sunduzwayo Madise.
According to the statement, the mandate of the executive committee expired in 2021, however the council extended the period with three months to give them enough time to finalize the amendment of the constitution and hold the election.
However, until to date nothing has been done, a development which has affected and crippled the operations of the operations of the council.
“This has led the association to have several rival camps hence rendered it dysfunctional, which is detrimental to the sport, the athlete and other sporting activities in the country,” read part of the sentence.
Nevertheless, following its 179th meeting which passed the resolution, the council has appointed an interim committee which will be headed by Justice Sylvester Kalembera, which will among other things oversee the finalization of the processes that are not completed including the conducting an election for the new executive committee for the association.
The interim committee also comprise of Oscar Kanjala, Thokozile Kuwali, Chifundo Tenthani and King Rudi.
