The Association of Early Childhood Development in Malawi (AECDM) has appealed for support from well-wishers towards payment of caregivers.
This comes following governments adoption of 2 000 caregivers to be receiving honorarium of K15,000 leaving out 10 000 caregivers in the process.
Executive director of the association Clement Silungwe said caregivers play a crucial role in shaping the educational foundation of learners as they prepare for primary school as such it is important to motivate them.
“What government has done is commendable for a start but we still need support to carter for the remaining teachers,” Silungwe said.
Silungwe has nonetheless stated that Early Childhood Education is progressing well, and learners are also being encouraged to read courtesy of the national reading programme supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
