Pressure continues to mount on President Lazarus Chakwera to release of a 19-year-old Mussa John, who is serving a three-year jail term for being found in possession of Indian hemp.
On Thursday, a group of concerned youths, led by musician cum-politician, Penjani Kalua, popularly known as Fredokiss; gave Chakwera 21 days to act on the matter on his return from United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the United States of America (USA).
Speaking after presenting the petition at Blantyre District Commissioner’s office, Kalua said there is selective justice in the way the sentence was passed as compared to similar cases in the country.
In his remarks, Human Resource Management Officer for Blantyre district council, Charles Edwin Mphepo, who received the petition on behalf of the district commissioner, assured the protestors that the petition will be delivered to relevant authorities.
