Government says it working on filling vacancies in public secondary schools.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry Education Chikondano Mussa has told us that the Ministry has written the Teachers Service Commission to facilitate promotion of over one thousand teachers.
She said: “Currently, we have reported the vacancy issue to the Commission for them to interview those one thousand teachers to fill the vacant positions.
“So, once we come across that process, we report to the Commission to hire or hear disciplinary to fire individuals.
Mussa said retirement, resignation and death of teachers are some of the contributions of the high vacancy levels.
Explained Mussa: “Basically, the Ministry looks at establishment in accordance with the grades in determining the vacancies.
“As of now, through attrition that is through death, retirement, resignation and other means, we have just above over a thousand which we have represented to our Commission which is responsible for conducting interviews so that teachers are promoted from one grade to another.”
